NRA's Competitive Shooting Division offers a wide range of activities in all types of shooting, for everyone from the novice to the world-class competitor. The NRA sanctions over 11,000 shooting tournaments and sponsors over 50 national championships each year. Why Shoot Competitively?

An excellent way for a new shooter to start in competitive shooting is a league. Although NRA rules are used, a league is generally informal. Usually a handicap system is used so all individuals or teams have an equal chance of winning. A Sanctioned League Handbook and application to have a sanctioned is available at no cost from the NRA Competitive Shooting Division.

Championship & Tournament Calendars

NRA World Shooting Championship

The 2017 NRA World Shooting Championship, held at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, WV, will be held September 14-16, 2017. The competition, gathering the top shooters in the world to compete in virtually every type of major firearms shooting sport including pistol, rifle, shotgun and combined firearm sports, will crown one competitor the undisputed World Shooting Champion.

Collegiate Shooting Programs

Nearly 300 colleges and universities in the U.S. offer shooting programs. If you are an experienced competition shooter and are looking for a potential college or university to attend, use the Collegiate Shooting Sports Directory as a resource. If you are already enrolled in college, or plan to attend a university that does not have a competitive program and you would like to start one, use the e-book "Developing A Scholastic Shooting Program."

NRA Springfield M1A Match

This match is a fun and friendly competition held during the National Matches. From novice to champion competitor, every level of shooter can be found here and over $25,000 in cash and prize awards will be given out for this match.

America's Rifle Challenge

The popularity of ARs over the past few years continues to rise. Millions of gun owners have purchased ARs for recreational shooting as well as for home defense. To help owners sharpen their skills on this platform, the NRA has developed a unique training and competition event designed to go beyond typical target practice.

Rule Books & Scoring Materials

Competitive shooting materials, including rule books, scoring aids and devices, score cards, and program information, are available for sale through the NRA Program Materials Center, or call 800-336-7402 to place your order.

National Records

Select a firearm type, discipline, program and course to see the records from past competitions. If you are a Statistical Officer, NRA Referee or Jury Member, download the NRA National Record Reporting Form to fill out after each Registered Tournament. Use the National Record checklist to ensure all the procedures are followed for accurate record keeping.

NRA National Trophies

This pages lists all NRA trophies that are awarded annually at NRA National Championship events. The winner receives a memento of the trophy and his or her name (or team name if team event) is engraved on the trophy if there is room remaining.

NRA National Matches - Results

The NRA National Matches are fired each year in July and August. These listings are for information only and, unless otherwise noted, are preliminary results. During the National Matches, preliminary results will be updated every 3 to 5 minutes on the site and ties are not broken in preliminary results.

NRA Licensed Target Manufacturers

The NRA has licensed a number of companies to print Official NRA Targets. These Target Manufacturers have agreed to follow NRA standards for Official Targets. Licenses are renewed on a regular basis. Shooting Sports USA

Over 10,000 competitive shooters read and share the modern-day digital edition of Shooting Sports USA every month for reviews of current firearm technology, what the winners are using and strategies for excellence on the firing line. NRA Postal Matches

A Postal Match is a match in which competitors fire on their home ranges using targets which have been marked for identification. The fired targets are then sent to NRA for scoring and ranking for awards. The NRA conducts various postal matches, many of which are in cooperation with national and fraternal organizations.

Adaptive Shooting

The NRA's goal is to increase access and participation in shooting activities for people with disabilities through specialized techniques and technologies that are safe and unique to each individual.

3 Gun Experience

NRA 3 Gun Experience presented by Smith & Wesson is designed to introduce new and intermediate shooters to the world of 3 Gun with a safe, family fun, recreational shooting program.

NRA Day Presented by Brownells

NRA Day events provide community members the opportunity to come together to learn, experience, share, and grow in appreciation of the shooting sports. Participants will be able to learn about the many different activities available in shooting sports and explore them in a safe environment.
